WWE Labor Relations: Wrestling is serious business. And one thing millions of wrestling fans don’t think about before buying a ticket to a wrestling event is taking into consideration the kind of treatment wrestlers physically go through. An interesting article was posted on Goliath website discussing wrestling and Labor Relations. WWE owner Vince McMahon doesn’t tell the general public that wrestlers are known as independent contractors. Yes, it’s true they’re paid significant amounts of money and virtually made instant millionaires upon signing a WWE wrestling contract. But one thing that’s a con as a professional WWE wrestler is, they have to pay their own taxes. And they allegedly have to pay their own travel to different wrestling events. They’re responsible for their own health care benefits. Moreover, it’s rumored that WWE allegedly pays for some of the wrestlers doctors bills but that has yet to be confirmed. The fact that the wrestlers have to pay their own taxes and go through brutal treatment with no guarantees of stable employment is in fact a WWE Labor Relations issue. It’s a real labor relations issue because the wrestling business is biased. If a person gets hurt and they can no longer wrestle or if they are disliked by all the wrestlers or members in higher up wrestling management, what is the future of that wrestler? And sadly, the job as a professional wrestling icon doesn’t come with employee benefits. If one is going to be an independent contractor and a millionaire, at least be in a field of work where there is no physical harm involved.
Kaiser Permanente: The Kaiser Labor Relations issue is an interesting one. It was published today on April Fools’ Day. the article goes on to mention that coalition members say that the company had violated laws concerning suppression of free speech on employees speaking against patient care issues. Basically, the company is accused of shutting employees up and turning their heads the other way while the company continues to profit hand over fist. So what the employees did was file a complaint with the Labor Relations Board in hopes that their case will be heard. healthcare dive goes on to mention that Kaiser Permanente will bargain between April 17 and April 19, 2019 after the coalition’s national agreement with the healthcare system that ended September 30, 2018. Kaiser is accused in the past of refusing to bargain with the national labor review board in May 2018. Labor relations issues will always happen in any workplace until the end of time. Out of every negative is a hidden positive. It may inspire wrongfully terminated employees and employees suppressed from moving up in the company with due promotions and pay raises to consider side hustle entrepreneurship and become future millionaires in the making. Long story short… Not every negative experience is what it is. Tough times don’t always last.
